A soft, warm surface from Expansion that rewards a longer look. Subtle pinks lead with a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, while blues, ochres and eggplant move through the layers, each color sharpening the next. It is warm and easy but never simple, with a quiet, cool confidence.
A surface from the heart of Expansion, where Landis's layered glazes do their most searching work. Built up in passes until the surface holds light rather than reflecting it, the blues move between deep saturation, cooler turquoise washes and earthen browns. It is striking and grounding at once, a piece that asks you to slow down and stay a while.

A bright, layered surface from Landis Carey's installation Expansion. Yellow leads here, sensational and alive, but built in layers so the brightness has real depth. Warm clay tones rise through the glaze, grounding the color in something rooted. It is at once familiar and a little otherworldly, with a sense of light arriving.

Landis Carey is a ceramic artist who processes life in clay. Throwing, hand-building, carving, and experimental glazing are meditative practices that bring heightened awareness and understanding to her observations.
Landis Carey is a resident artist at Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach, Florida, USA. She has been wheel-throwing and handbuilding with clay for over 20 years. Her practice is rooted in functional pottery.
